October 2007

Gardening isn’t always fun.
Today’s walk-around, primarily to admire the wonderful autumn colours, also revealed a crop of toadstools flourishing in the garden.
Beautiful certainly, but suspicious because their appearance, coupled with the untimely death of a healthyCotoneaster Cornuba earlier in the year indicates the possibility of honey fungus, a disease that attacks the healthy roots of trees and shrubs and for which there is no easy control.
To find out if my fears are justified I am turning to the Royal Horticultural Societywhich provides free advice to its members and wil be able to give an accurate diagnosis through the analysis of soil and plant material. At times like this I feel quite powerless and am yet once again reminded that, just in case I had forgotten… NATURE RULES OK!
