April 2008

Ahhh…the magic of sunlight.
This month saw frost, hail and snow so when at last we woke to a day of bright sunshine what a wonderful spell it cast!

I couldn’t wait to go outside to photograph the strange and elegant flowers of Tulipa acuminata growing on the balcony and was immediately struck by the shadows they cast on the paintwork behind them. Twisted stems of Corylus ‘Contorta’ thrown into silhouette on a terra-cotta olive jar added to the drama of light and shade and everywhere spring blossom seemed to open almost as I watched.
This long awaited growth spurt is just what I need as it is now not long before my NGS open day on May 18th. There is still much to do and plenty of gaps to fill in the borders so fingers crossed for more fine days and quality gardening time between now and then!
