February 2008

February can be a grim, grey month!

In my garden I have been looking forward to seeing Clematis cirrhosa‘Jingle Bells’ covered in flowers but there are sadly few. The thick mulch of rotted manure that I have spread around its base will hopefully mean more blooms next year…
Clumps of eagerly awaited snowdrops have lost all their flowers overnight – hungry squirrels or birds perhaps but how disappointing…

And so another gardening year unfolds with its crop of unexpected joys and set-backs. Long walks by the sea on the North Norfolk coast re-charge the batteries and we collect drift-wood and shells for the summer garden.

Back home to bright winter sunshine and welcome ladybirds are already busy at work – greenfly won’t be a problem this year at least!
