May 2009

May has been a month of drama in my garden! The RHS advisory service has confirmed that the sudden demise of my treasured Viburnum opulus was caused by honey fungus. The advice given was to remove and dispose of the affected plant and roots and to re-plant with a disease resistant replacement so sadly I will be unable to fill the gap with another Viburnum as I had wished.

Despite this set-back and wet and windy weather for the day of our NGS Open Garden, we raised nearly £1,000 for the charity with people coming from far and wide, some as a result of a timely feature about the garden in Gardens Monthly magazine.
A big thank you to all kind helpers and generous visitors. For those who were unable to visit here are some pictures which make me forgive (just) the more unwelcome traits that Nature has just demonstrated.
